Yankees and Blue Jays Battle For AL East Title... And More!
Yankees and Blue Jays battle for the AL East title with playoffs and home-field advantage at stake. Key matchups and predictions for the final games of the season.
The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays are deadlocked at 91 - 68 with three games remaining in the regular season, and more than the AL East Division is at stake.
With the best record in the American League as a prize for the AL East winner, home-field advantage through the American League playoffs is also at stake.
The Yankees will finish the regular season at home against the Orioles, and the Bombers will likely be favored in all three games with so much at stake in the Boogie Down Bronx.
Will Warren will be taking the mound for the Yankees to open the 3-game series with Baltimore on Friday night, and the home team is chalked at -150 to begin the set with a victory, according to the line setters.
Trevor Rogers will take the bump in opposition for Baltimore, and his 9 - 2 record with a 1.35 ERA could make life difficult for the Bombers. Rogers hasn’t picked up a loss since August 1st, a run spanning 8 games with 5 wins and 3 ND’s, and he just shut down the Yankees on September 18th, which ended with a Yankee defeat, 4 - 2.
The Yankees improved to 8 - 1 over their last 9 games with Thursday night’s win over the White Sox, but Will Warren hasn’t fared so well in his recent outings. The Yankees have lost all four of Warren’s last four starts, and he’s given up a homer in each of his last six starts.
The last two games are expecting Tomoyuki Sugano (10 - 9, 4.54 ERA) vs Cam Schlittler (3 - 3, 3.27 ERA) starting on Saturday, and Kyle Bradish (1 - 1, 2.25 ERA) facing Luis Gil (4 - 1, 3.29 ERA) on Sunday.
The Toronto Blue Jays are favored at -165 to win the American League Division title, according to DraftKings.
Toronto has lost 6 of its last 8 games, but will stay at home to finish the regular season with three games against the Tampa Bay Rays. A Thursday night win against Boston salvaged a series that could have been swept after losing the first two games to the Red Sox.
Toronto will send Adrian Houser (8 - 4, 3.18 ERA) to begin the series with the Rays on Friday night, while the road team is expected to send Shane Bieber (3 - 2, 3.57 ERA) in opposition.
Bieber has only made six starts in 2025, missing most of the season after a lengthy battle recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old California native has pitched in a total of 8 games since 2023, and although there is no pressure on him, this is a big outing for Toronto!
Joe Boyle (1 - 3, 4.40 ERA) will pitch against Trey Yesavage (0 - 0, 5.00 ERA) on Saturday, and we might see a boatload of runs from this second game of the series. Keep that in mind!
Yesevage has only pitched 9 total innings in his Major League career, although his debut came against these Rays on September 15. The 22-year-old rookie struck out 9 Rays in 5 innings, and allowed a single run, despite the no-decision in a 2 - 1 game.
Ian Seymour (4 - 2, 2.85 ERA) is posted as the Rays’ probable starter for the final game of the season on Sunday, and the Jays haven’t disclosed which pitcher will wrap up the regular season. Circumstances might affect that situation, so stay tuned!
With Jose Berrios and Chris Bassitt on the IL, that could make life interesting for the Jays rotation with so much at stake to end the regular season. Bo Bichette being out of the lineup also increases concern for Toronto’s offense!
Also of note. If the two teams are tied on the final day of the regular season, the Blue Jays hold the tiebreaker edge, and would win both the AL East Division title and home-field advantage throughout the AL postseason.
My Prediction: The New York Yankees take the AL East title, win the division, and home-field advantage throughout the AL Playoffs goes through the Big Apple!
Take the +135 on the Bombers to win the AL East Division title!
