Rookie TreVeyon Henderson Propels Patriots to 27-14 Win Over Jets

Rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson had an amazing night, scoring three touchdowns to help the New England Patriots keep rolling with a 27-14 win over the New York Jets. This was the Patriots' eighth straight victory, and they’re really starting to look like a strong team this season.

With the Patriots now at 9-2, they tied their longest winning streak since 2019, when Tom Brady was still the guy leading the team. Their 3-0 run in the AFC East this year is also their best start in the division since that same 2019 season. Coach Mike Vrabel, in his first year, has got New England playing like one of the best teams in the NFL right now, ahead of teams like Indianapolis and Denver, both 8-2. Plus, they’re on track for a winning season for the first time since 2021, when they last made the playoffs.

Because their usual running back, Rhamondre Stevenson, has been out with a toe injury, it gave Henderson a big opportunity to shine. He carried the ball 19 times, his career high, and ran for 62 yards. His two rushing touchdowns matched what he scored just a few days earlier in their win over Tampa Bay. Henderson also caught a touchdown pass, making his night even better.

Quarterback Drake Maye had a solid game too, completing 25 of 34 passes for 281 yards and a touchdown. Stefon Diggs was his top target, catching nine passes and racking up 105 yards, adding to his three 100-yard games this season.

Game time was chilly and wet, with temps in the high 30s Fahrenheit, but the Patriots handled the conditions well. They gained 336 total yards and kept the Jets limited to 245.

The Jets’ quarterback, Justin Fields, threw a touchdown to John Metchie III but struggled a bit overall, finishing 15 of 26 for 116 yards. Fields also led the Jets in rushing, carrying 11 times for 67 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately for New York, their top receiver Garrett Wilson was sidelined with a knee injury and placed on injured reserve before the game.

Late in the game, with the Jets down 27-14 and about two minutes left, they got a chance to keep the drive alive on fourth-and-four near the Patriots’ 15-yard line. But Fields’ pass to tight end Jeremy Ruckert was broken up, sealing the Patriots' win.

The game started with the Jets winning the coin toss and driving 72 yards over 14 plays to score first on a touchdown run by Fields. It was their first opening-drive touchdown since late last season. But the Patriots quickly answered back with a 69-yard drive that included a key fourth-down pass from Maye to DeMario Douglas and finished with Henderson’s seven-yard touchdown run.

After the Jets punted, Henderson scored again with another tough run, dragging defenders into the end zone to give New England the lead at 14-7.

The Jets struggled with penalties, missed chances, and a passing game that just couldn’t get going. They nearly had a big turnover late in the first half when a sack was wiped out by a penalty, and then a cornerback collided with a teammate, knocking away what could have been an interception. Fields only completed four passes for 23 yards in that first half.

All in all, it was another strong team effort from the Patriots, especially from their rookie star Henderson, who’s quickly becoming a key part of their offense.

Wilson Pick Focus: Washington Commanders @ Miami Dolphins (Commanders +2.5, -105)

I’m taking Commanders +2.5 in Madrid. Miami is coming off its biggest win of the season on Sunday, and this spot screams letdown, especially for a team that’s 1–5 SU and ATS after a win in its last six games. I don’t love the energy around the Dolphins heading into an international game, and Tua’s turnover (13 picks, No. 1 in “Danger Plays”) make him vulnerable to the added chaos Dan Quinn plans to bring now that he’s calling Washington’s defense. Even with Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin out, I trust Marcus Mariota to keep Washington competitive against a Miami defense allowing 25.6 points per game (ninth-highest in the NFL). This matchup sets up as a classic buy-low, sell-high spot between two comparable teams in a strange environment, and I’m grabbing the points with Washington.
