Is Giannis Leaving Milwaukee? Inside the Rumors Fueling a Potential Mega Trade
Rumors of a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade request are heating up as the Bucks fall to 9–13. Shams and Windhorst report major decisions are looming in Milwaukee.

There’s some big buzz around Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, and not necessarily the good kind. Rumors have been swirling that Giannis might actually be thinking about asking for a trade, which is basically what every Bucks fan fears.
On Wednesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania dropped some news that Giannis and his agent, Alex Saratsis, have been chatting with the Bucks’ front office about his future, and whether staying in Milwaukee is really the best move for him.
Things haven’t been great for the Bucks lately, they’ve lost eight of their last nine games. Charania also shared some insight from the summer, saying that if Giannis started feeling like the Bucks weren't seriously competing for a championship, he might go ahead and request a trade. Now it sounds like that moment is close, with Charania saying “a resolution is expected in the coming weeks.” So, that means a major trade involving Giannis could be happening soon.
But not everyone is 100% sold on the idea that he’ll actually be traded midseason. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst weighed in and pointed out that Giannis already asked for a trade to the New York Knicks this offseason. After that, though, Giannis seemed to commit to playing this season with the Bucks.
Windhorst told ESPN Cleveland, “What appears is that Giannis committed himself for the season to the Bucks. But the Bucks are not good. This year, when he hasn’t played, they’re 1-5. When he has played, they’re 9-8. What you’re asking me is will his viewpoint change? I don’t know. I know he asked for a trade and then said he’ll be a Buck this year. A lot of people in the league don’t think he’ll be a Buck next year.”
It shouldn’t be a huge surprise that Giannis is thinking about his future right now. Before this season even kicked off, Charania reported that Giannis planned to check in on how the team was doing after about 25 games before making any big decisions.
Well, with the Bucks holding a rough 9-13 record, it looks like that check-in might not be very encouraging.
Charania also mentioned that this losing streak has been tough on Giannis, but also on the Bucks’ coaches, front office, and players. One insider even said it feels like “the writing is on the wall” when it comes to Giannis’ future, unless the Bucks suddenly turn things around this season.
There’s no clear idea yet if or when any trade will actually go down, but you can bet the spotlight will be on Milwaukee, especially as they get ready to face the 17-4 Detroit Pistons this Wednesday night. Everyone will be watching to see what happens next.
